Gorgeous, isn’t it? Poly Bernatene just keeps making me happier and happier. Check out the three volumes, all lined up together–
THE SECOND SPY will be released on July 5, 2012. It’s already available for pre-order from Amazon, but I hope you’ll buy or pre-order it from your favorite local bookstore. (BTW, Here‘s an interesting blog about one of Amazon’s latest schemes, written by an independent bookstore owner.) Of course, you could also order a signed copy through my own local bookshop, Best of Times, once the book is released…
When I visit schools, kids often ask me which of my own books is my favorite, and I always say that it’s the one I’m planning to write next, which is still pure dream and excitement and potential, without any flaws in it (yet). And this is the truth. But it’s also true that I had a ridiculous amount of fun while writing THE SECOND SPY, and I can’t wait until it’s out there in the world, being read by people I’ve never met.
My copies of the Greek and Catalan translations of THE SHADOWS recently arrived — and here they are, atop my Christmassy tablecloth.
(It’s a wonderfully odd thing not to be able to read a single word of your own book.)
In other fiction news, I’ve just sold a short story, “The Emperor’s Nightingale” (a sort of dystopian/environmental retelling of Anderson’s fairy tale) to Aoife’s Kiss, and am looking forward to seeing it published next summer.
Tomorrow is the Anderson Center’s Holiday Celebration of the Arts. I’ll be there from noon to five, signing and selling copies of THE SHADOWS, SPELLBOUND, and CHERMA. If you’re in the Red Wing area and are looking for unique Christmas gifts, come and visit; the beauty of the Anderson Center itself makes it worth the trip.
You have no idea how loudly I squealed in the middle of class when I saw this. Not that I should be here in the middle of class, but I couldn’t help myself. Congratulations, Jacqueline! I still have a goofy smile on my face from the shock of seeing the cover. So excited! Gah!

Oh, how wonderful Jacqueline!! It’s perfect the work of Poly Bernatene, if I liked the first, I love love the second the third. [laughs] It was really cool to have this new experience talking to an author from another country and I wanted to thank you for inspiring me and given me courage in my writing (almost complete) I am super happy to see that The Shadows is doing well to outside the world, hopefully soon arrive here in Brazil … But anyway I’m anxious to read this sequence … SPITE: STILL HAVE HOPES TO ADAPT TO BOOK YOUR MOVIES [laughs] Okay, I’ll be waiting. And for you [considered a favorite writer of my bookshelf] A Merry Christmas and a great beginning of 2012. PS:. It’s so good to hear from you, Gabriel! I’m glad you like the cover too. I’m so lucky to be working with an artist like Poly Bernatene — and I’d love to see what an artist like YOU would do with these settings and characters in your own film version! It makes me incredibly happy to think that my work might have inspired someone else. Wishing you a merry Christmas and a very happy New Year–

Thanks Jacqueline, I still have in mind that you one day be on the red carpet for their film saga. You made me more anxious to “ask me what book I liked, and that which I am writing” fiction? HOW Elsewhere? Why can bet if the movie will also [Laughs] I’m so happy to share my thoughts with someone (especially for the author of the book I’ll adapt) This is fun, so it is possible to start writing my new series, and ends it could share it with you a bit? [MEAN YOU SEND BY E-MAIL THAT YOU CAN READ] I think it would be possible and if so, I’ll be more enthusiastic [Laughter] I am very happy it. Jacqueline West u are a amazing writer im reading your book elsewhere its so good i cant wayt to finish it it is interesting and spoiky and i love that about books it makes u want to read them even more
